SUN CITY SCHOLARSHIP

Any graduating El Paso senior competing in Sun City Dance Classic and applying to a university or technical school is eligible to apply for a Sun City Scholarship. Applications can be completed through the Sun City Dance Classic website. All applications will be due February 14, 2020. Awarded amounts to be announced at a later date.

GUIDELINES & PRIORITIES

Sun City Dance Classic Competition will be opening the 2020 Sun City Scholarship Program.  Under the program, five (5) scholarships will be awarded to eligible seniors attending a high school in the El Paso area.

Program Guidelines & Priorities:

•  Seeking graduating seniors whose lives have been positively impacted by dance with a record of volunteerism in the community in non-school sponsored activities and participation in extracurricular school activities.
•  Applicants must have dance experience and plan to attend a 2 or 4 year college or technical school.
•  Must be competing in the Sun City Dance Classic competition.
•  Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the college in the student’s first year and not to the student.

Sun City Dance Classic strongly suggests that each dance company present this opportunity to the strongest applicants that match this program’s guidelines.

Application deadline is February 14, 2020 by 4:00 p.m. Late applications are not accepted.

The applications will be reviewed and recipients selected by a committee consisting of volunteers Sun City Dance Classic. The scholarships will be awarded at the Sun City Dance Classic Grand Champion Competition March 1, 2020.

ESSAY OUTLINE

With your application, please attach an essay that outlines the following information. This is the primary component of your application that will be used in deciding scholarship recipients. All essays must be double spaced, typed in 12 point, Times New Roman font. There are no page limits but concise, well written essays are preferred.

Introduction: Introduce yourself with information about your home, family, and community.

Academics: Describe yourself as a student – how did you make the grades you did with the demands of dance and other extracurricular events. Tell us who/what inspired you to pursue a college education. Describe any leadership positions you have held and how they have shaped you. Tell us about any support systems you will have by pursuing your degree.

Career Plans: Describe your ultimate career goal and the steps you are taking to reach those goals. Discuss your strengths and weaknesses.
Leadership/Community Service: Describe your community involvement activities If you don’t have traditional community involvement, describe how you have helped your family and community.

Financial Needs: Describe your financial needs and how you plan to fund your educational goals.

Unique Circumstances: Tell us about any special circumstances or obstacles you have overcome in your educational journey. Tell us anything that makes you unique that has not already been stated.

Impact of Dance: Most importantly, explain the impact dance has had on your life. Describe how dance has become an important part of your life and why you choose to make it a priority in your life.
